Herbs and edibles on the back deck
You hear about kitchen herb gardens all the time, but there truly is nothing like stepping out of your kitchen door to grab fresh scallions for breakfast or basils, thymes, cilantro, nasturtiums , tarragon, or mints for meals. Lavender and Rosemary planted in key spots give off fragrance as you brush them when passing. I often venture out and poke around as I wait for the coffee to brew in the morning.

Sit a spell...
A sitting spot in a Memory Garden.
I read about memory gardens. What better spot to start one than under the apple tree. First I transplanted peonies from our family cottage on Cape Cod. I brought stepping stones from my yard in Boston, and my sister gave me the gift of a historical celery like plant, Lovage. The leaves are fragrant and we use them in soups, broths and salads instead of celery. It was believed at one time that a gift to a new home of a lovage plant was truly from the heart. I also planted other fragrant herbs here.
